What are the benefits and draw back of self publishing?

What are the benefits and draw back of self publishing? I found an online company that will publish my book for me with payment and I get royalites on each book sold? Is this a good deal or will I end up getting cheated in the end?

Answer 1

Self Publisher never get well known. Those websites like Lulu or instantpublisher or all of those, will never get you what you want. Take for instance one of those websites, nobody buys off of them, you will never get the recognition you deserve if you really have written a piece of art. You best bet is to find an Agent to help you out and find a publisher willing to look over your work. self publishing gets ur book published, but many people don't buy, and you may end up paying more for the books than you make, consider hat you're doing before you make your final choice. good luck!

Answer 2

(For getting published "the real way", you should get an agent) For self-publishing Benefits: - You are definately going to get published Draw-Backs: - You have to pay to get it published - If you have any errors, you're screwed - You have to market/advertise your book YOUR SELF if you want it to sell For REAL publishing (WITH a literary agent): Benefits: - It won't cost you a cent - Your agent will do all the leg-work (all you have to do is write) - Your publisher and agent will do all the marketing - Your editor/agent/publisher will do most of the "quality-checking" Draw-Backs: - You have to face a couple of 'rejections' from your first few tries at an agent before finding the "right one" REMEMBER, an agent will NEVER charge you anything but commission... If one tries, then they're a scam-artist. Your job is to write, you don't have to pay people so you can do your job.

Answer 3

Check this site for the comparison between self and traditional publishing: http://www.scribendi.com/advice/traditional_versus_self_publishing.en.html In my opinion, self-publishing is a writer's strategy when he or she wants to have full control of the book's publishing. To get more information on how to self-publish a book, get this FREE book publishing guide and publishing consultant will walk you through the whole process free of charge: http://www2.xlibris.com/requestkit/index.asp?src=aop&key=qac I hope you find this answer useful.
