How do you format a manuscript for a book? Also why is a query letter important?

The Query Letter is important because unless you're a known author, nobody is going to waste time reading your manuscript. Most people who send in a manuscript never get it back, and it does not get read. A Query Letter simply states what the maunscript is about and gives the agent or publisher a easy way to see if they might be interested. If they are, they will contact you - always put a Self Addressed Envelope with Query Letter.
